Art Initiative workshop: Film as method for research
Some weeks ago Jenny Lantz did an art talk at SSE about the film MEN AT KASTRUP - screened right now at the school. We have invited Jenny back for a research based seminar/workshop on film as a research method and the investigation on gender structures that Jenny and Nanna Gillberg did in 2004 when they were PhD students at SSE.
Focusing on the traveling men at Copenhagen airport, as well as the predominantly female service providers, the film MEN AT KASTRUP explored the airport as an arena for the reproduction of gender inequality. The documentary was made by Nanna Gillberg and Jenny Lantz in 2004 while they were PhD students at SSE. To mark its 20th anniversary, the documentary is currently screened at the school - please try to watch it before the seminar.
The seminar/workshop will be divided into two parts:
First, based on the film, we will address some key concepts in the field of gender and organization, for example, homosociality, dominant masculinities, gender structures, emotional work. We will of course also talk about how society and the research field has changed over the past 20 years.
In the second part we will discuss the use of film as a method for qualitative research. Before embarking on her PhD, Jenny studied filmmaking at NYU and cinema studies at Stockholm University.
Coffee and a croissant will be served.
Welcome! Open for all (students, researchers others!)
